How Do I Register to Vote?

The following information is taken from the State of California Voter Registration Form:

To Vote:

  • You must be a citizen of the United States.
  • You must be a resident of the state of California.
  • You must by 18 years of age or older on the date of the election.
  • You must NOT be in prison or on parole for the conviction of a felony.
  • You must NOT have been judged by a court to be mentally incompetent to register and vote
  • In California, the deadline to register to vote for an election is 15 days before each local and statewide election day (You must be registered by May 22, 2006 to vote in the Primary Election on June 6, 2006, and by October 23, 2006 to vote in the General Election on November 7, 2006). You will be sent a Voter Notification Card to confirm your registration. If you do NOT receive a Voter Notification Card call the county clerk / registrar of voters in the county in which you live.
  • If you wish to receive an absentee ballot by mail, a written application must be on file with the county clerk / registrar of voters at least 7 days before the election. After the 7-day deadline, you may apply for and vote an absentee ballot at that office either in person or through an authorized representative.
