Throughout his tenure in Congress, Tom Lantos has been the leading advocate for human rights, calling attention to literally thousands of individual cases of torture, denial of rights, and official abuse. He has been a voice for rights of persecuted racial, religious, and ethnic minorities. He is founder and Co-Chairman of the bipartisan Congressional Human Rights Caucus, which focuses congressional attention on human rights violations around the world.
